Most people give credit to David &#8220;Doc&#8221; Strickler, an optometrist in Latrobe, PA. The banana splits were sold in the first-floor pharmacy of the building where his optometry practice was located.<br>The classic recipe is vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice creams, topped with pineapple, chocolate and strawberry syrups. It is served in a boat dish, surrounded by bananas and topped with whipped cream and cherries.  We have come up with our own combination as well.
