The official nickname for Connecticut is &#8220;The Constitution State&#8221;, but it is also known as &#8220;The Nutmeg State&#8221;. This nickname is likely due to the frequent use of nutmeg along with other spices by cooks in colonial times.<br>We wanted to make cookies since it is the Christmas season, so we have decided to make Spice Cookies for Connecticut.<br>Cookies like these with molasses and a variety of spices are very common in the New England region. Set aside.<br>Cream together butter and sugar. Add egg and molasses and mix until combined.<br>With speed on low, gradually add dry ingredients and mix until just combined.<br>Form dough into small balls, about 1 T per ball.<br>Bake at 350 F for 12 minutes. Cool cookies for 5 minutes on cookie sheets before transferring to cooling rack.<br>(The 12 minute baking time results in a slightly chewy cookie.
