Welcome to Pennsylvania where the delicious Banana Split was invented. Most people give credit to David “Doc” Strickler, an optometrist in Latrobe, PA. The banana splits were sold in the first-floor pharmacy of the building where his optometry practice was located.
The classic recipe is vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice creams, topped with pineapple, chocolate and strawberry syrups. It is served in a boat dish, surrounded by bananas and topped with whipped cream and cherries. We have come up with our own combination as well. Enjoy!
